It is supposed to be one of the oldest Cafés in Caldas da Rainha, as it started operating in the 18th century, although it was in the 1930s that it became one of the city’s landmarks. During the dictatorship regime, it was considered by the political police as a place of opposition conspiracy and was always linked to a certain “thinking elite”, who organized gatherings and discussions there.
The space is often requested for gatherings, book presentations, concerts in the square next to the esplanade.

One of the emblematic elements of the space is the low relief panel by Júlio Pomar called “Unicórnio”(1995c) and can still be appreciated on the wall of this Café.
The Management is always available to accept new meetings and challenges.
