Women Writers Route: Certification ceremony in Ljubljana

On 12th September 2023, the official certification ceremony of the Women Writers Route as a ‘Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe’ took place in the Main Hall of the National Assembly, in the presence of Urška KLAKOČAR ZUPANČIČ, President of the National Assembly; the Slovenian MP Mrs. Tamara VONTA, Chair of the Slovenian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and Chair of the Committee on Culture of the Slovenian National Assembly; Dr Andreja RIHTER, President of the Women Writers Routes Cultural Tourism Association; Špela SPANŽEL, General Director of the Cultural Heritage Directorate at the Slovenian Ministry of Culture; and Mr. Stefano DOMINIONI, Executive Secretary of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, and Director of the European Institute of Cultural Routes.

Certified by the Council of Europe in 2022, the Women Writers Route reveals the life and creativity of women writers at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. from Slovenia, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Poland, Portugal, or Serbia. The Route currently crosses 7 EPA member States, and aims to give more visibility to women writers, while striving to raise awareness to shape a new understanding of their importance in the history of European Literature.

The certification diploma was given to Dr Andreja RIHTER, President of the Route, by Urška KLAKOČAR ZUPANČIČ and Mr. DOMINIONI.
