The second UNWTO -United Nations World Tourism Organization- Conference on Accessible Tourism took place in San Marino on 16 and 17 November 2023. The Government of San Marino, through its Ministry of Tourism, collaborated with the Ministry of Tourism of Italy to organise the event, in partnership with AccessibleEU, a key initiative under the European Commission.
During the two-days event, more than 200 delegates discussed policy advances, with also a Ministerial Roundtable, bringing together San Marino, Italy, the Republic of Korea, Uzbekistan, the Czech Republic and Israel, to discuss governments’ role in advancing accessibility through policies, strategies and standards.
At this occasion, the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe Programme was presented by Stefano Dominioni, Executive Secretary of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, and Director of the European Institute of Cultural Routes. Many of the 47 certified Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe cater for people with disabilities, making it a flagship programme in the field of accessible tourism.
One significant outcome of the event was the creation of the San Marino Agenda, serving as a comprehensive action plan focused on promoting disability inclusion across all facets of the tourism industry. For more information see here.
