Cultural Routes: Intercultural identity

Council of Europe

Europe was constructed on the basis of centuries of exchanges between people of different backgrounds and beliefs.

The traces of this legacy are still present in the routes that crisscross the continent and take no account of borders or nationalities. The aim of the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe programme is to preserve and enhance this heritage that builds a shared intercultural identity…

The Cultural Routes are grass-roots networks promoting the principles which underlie all the work and values of the Council of Europe: human rights, cultural democracy, cultural diversity, mutual understanding and exchanges across boundaries.

They act as channels for intercultural dialogue and promote a better knowledge and understanding of European history.
