Starting on 1 January 2024, Netherlands has been granted Observer status with the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe (EPA). On 6 October 2023, Ms Susan Lammers, General Director at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science requested the status with the EPA.
Pursuant to article 2.3 of the Committee of Ministers Resolution CM/Res(2013)66 confirming the establishment of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes, the Governing Board granted this status to Netherlands for a period of one year.
The EPA counts today 40 Member States, 2 Observer States and 47 certified Cultural Routes.
At present, there are 12 Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe with network members active in the Netherlands:
- Santiago de Compostela Pilgrim Routes
- The Hansa
- Viking Routes
- Saint Martin of Tours Route
- European Cemeteries Route
- European Route of Ceramics
- European Route of Megalithic Culture
- European Routes of Emperor Charles V
- Impressionisms Routes
- European Route of Industrial Heritage
- Liberation Route Europe
- European Route d’Artagnan
Netherlands offers great potential for the further development of other certified Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe.
