CAFE IMPERIAL (est. 1914)

Prague - Czech Republic

Magnificent and majestic, the emblematic Café Imperial in Prague, Czech Republic, is a jewel of architectural and cultural heritage.

The first documents with references to the building where the Café Imperial is housed are dated back to 1383!

The history of the building, as well as of the Cafe itself, is totally parallel to the history of the city. During the Swedish siege of Prague, the building was burned down, but in 1730 it was rebuilt and operated as a small hotel of the era under the name “Black Eagle”. As the years passed the building became widely known as the “Hotel of Black Eagle”.

From 1914, the hotel was renamed and redecorated. The “Imperial Café” along with the stunning “Imperial Café” was hosting personalities of arts, letters and politics. Among his famous visitors were the Czechoslovakian First President Tomas Garrigue Masaryk, the author Franz Kafka and the composer Leos Janacek.
